As Ghana prepares for the December 7, 2024, elections, LoveAid Foundation with support from Foundation For Security and Development in Africa , Ghana Youth Manifesto Team and implementing partners, National Youth Authority, National Commission for Civic Education, Youth Alliance for Sustainability, Youths for Christ and, McGharbins Network urges young people to champion peaceful and inclusive participation. The Ghana Youth Manifesto, launched on December 23, 2023, outlines a roadmap for a more equitable nation, and we must unite behind it.
The Challenge: Electoral Violence
Ghana’s electoral history is marred by violence, with 60 incidents reported in 2020, including gunshots and deaths ¹. The combination of 1.1 million illegal weapons and 1.9 million unemployed youth poses a significant threat ².
Our Response: Public Education Campaign
LoveAid Foundation commences with a stakeholder engagement and is launching a public education campaign in the Volta Region’s hotspots: Hohoe, Keta, Ho, Ketu South and North Municipalities, Ho West, and North Tongu districts. We aim to:
- Increase awareness of the Ghana Youth Manifesto among 2,000 citizens, focusing on youth aged 15-35.
- Reduce electoral violence risk through targeted sensitization programs.
- Empower young people to participate peacefully and responsibly.
